Is there a simple way to test the ringtone of my landline phone ?

Interestingly I regard this problem as an illustration of the generalised incompetence of BT management. There are however other opinions. eg Littleboo"The reality is, times change and very old devices that were built to work with the exchanges of their time aren't going to be plug and play with the very latest technology. No provider is going to get involved with the customers legacy technology, it was decide back in the 1980's that the customer would take ownership of the phone itself, hence why the BT style phone jack was introduced."Any comments ?0

If it's the same as the one Vodafone send out, the "digital voice" adapter supplied doesn't have a ringing capacitor in it, so will only work with two-wire phones.
Older phones which need a 3rd ringing wire also need a ringing capacitor in the adapter.
If you have a broadband microfilter dongle, plug the microfilter dongle into the DV adapter, plug the phone into the microfiltter.
Or buy an adapter with a ringing capacitor

Does anyone know how many 3-wire phones might still be in use ?

In use with BT and therefore potentially won’t ring without connecting via a broadband filter when migrated to DV , or in use with other providers like ( for example ) Talk Talk or Sky so BT DV won’t affect them , in any case people throw away elderly electronic devices like TV’s , Fridges , DVD players etc when they reach the end of the usefulness , most of this electronic rubbish will have original cost much , much more to purchase than a corded landline phone , and in many if not most cases this equipment isn’t faulty , just no longer current, so if a punter has a 30 -40 year old corded phone that cost £10 back in the day , and after DV it won’t ring ( unless connected with a filter ) and they feel ‘forced’ into purchasing a newer phone , so what ? its a minuscule issue.0

I am just one person and I wasted 2 whole days of my and BTs time on the issue. Had I followed BTs guidance I would also have wasted £30 on a new phone. In addition the customer is unaware that the phone will not ring so that could create serious medical problems.Lets see if anyone can point to the number of affected phones ?0

As stated , phones connected to what communication provider , just BT ? , you need to frame your question better , perhaps there are 100 over 30 years old still in use ( no one can give a real figure so mine is as valid as any other number ) but only 10 of them are connected to BT DV , Sky and Talk Talk and everyone else don’t ‘use’ BTDV , and TBH , as far as you wasting time , I’m guessing you have plenty of time on your hands to be so concerned with this
FYI , in the early days BT DV , BT supplied a free BT DV phone , and were given zero credit for doing so…..Sky are also converting their customers to their own IP system ( it’s not BT DV and is nothing to do with BT , but its principals are the same , based on IP telephony, they call it Internet Calls ) anyone with a 30 year old phone with Sky will have the same ‘problem’ , they have ( I believe) 6 customers affected .1 -

No. I had come to that conclusion well before this particular experience.
