Morning all. I’m new to this. I’ve recently switched to Octopus Tracker for gas & electric. Is it an expensive tariff to use during the colder months? Am I better off reverting to a fix later in the year?

If anything it cost less per unit over the last winter than it has this summer due to the higher amount of wind in the system.

Granted that might not be the case this winter, depends what happens to the gas wholesale price more than anything.

Thank you. I’ve only been on the tariff for a few weeks. So far so good. I’ll give it a try and stick with it then.

It is flirting dangerous close to the new July 2024 cap for electric though, although hasnt breached it yet over the last few weeks, so its just something you need to keep an eye on from next month onwards and your appetite to risk.

Personally, the odd day over the July price cap is fine if its balanced out by cheaper days with lots of wind (was down at 13p the weekend just gone.
  • It isn't as good as it was. Prices have been relatively high lately, I would have been better off sticking on Octopus Go for last few months (I have an EV though so charge it in the cheap period)

Gas is getting closer too, although not using much this time of year.

Last 3ish weeks, it's been around 4.6-4.8p for West Mids region.

Gas SVR is 6p and will come down to 5.5p I think in July.

So it's still cheaper, but with every price cap change, it's getting closer.

That said, prices are probably going to go up a bit next time (October is it?), then (crystal ball gazing stay the same in Jan25)

So the SVR will go up in October. Will tracker still be cheaper than the new SVR, who knows!
