Mulsanne Insurance/U Drive Car Insurance - Treating Customers Fairly?

Has anyone come across these companies? I recently had a very strange and disappointing experience where I was quoted an annual premium on the Meerkats (i think) and directed to the U Drive (assume they're a broker) call centre. The customer service guy (very friendly) ran back through the quote (where he agreed there were no changes to the information) but tried to increase my premium by more than £300. He told me that that my overall 'score' meant it would cost more?? He couldn't explain how the 'score' was reached but insisted the increase was correct. Bizarre. Rather than waste any more time I found a suitable alternative deal but I was a bit shocked that this type of shoddy practice can exist in this day and age. Would be good to know if anyone has had a similar experience?

U Drive Cover are a broker.

The question really is... why did you call them rather than buy online?

If you just decided it may be easier for some reason then this could just be they rerated the policy to telephone rather than aggregator rates... many companies charge different amounts depending on your channel and may even vary what cover they offer by chanel

If the website wouldn't allow you to buy online then it would appear there was some form of problem with the interface between the aggregator and their website hence driving you to the phones and also potentially explaining the change in premiums.  There are always going to be some challenges between two websites given the question sets dont perfectly match... for example "where is the vehicle kept" may have options like Work Carpark, Resident Carpark, Public Carpark, Secure CarPark on an aggregator but a traditional insurer only accepts garage, driveway or street

Thx DDG. They didn’t give me a buy online option, only a call centre one. I understand that websites can ask slightly different questions but the guy confirmed that my information was exactly the same as the original quote hence my feeling that I was being taken for a ride.

Frustrating experience! I've had similar issues with insurance companies and their mysterious algorithms. DDG's point about online vs phone quotes is valid, but in your case, it sounds suspicious.

Quick update on this. The PC site eventually came back to me and seem to agree my original quote should have stood. They're looking into it
