Solar iboost
Hi
I have solar panels and too much hot water on sunny days .
I have disconnected the clamp at the meter so all my surplus energy goes to the grid .
I have an old meter that goes backwards.
Is there any danger in doing this ?
Need to test later to see if boost and timer works independently.

From April, I noted, having regard for all of my circumstances, no advantage in using iBoost.
Export 6.79p x 1.052 = 7.14p. Gas is 6.01p, and at 84% summer efficiency, 7.14p. There is minimal value in diversion. Use gas to maintain temperature.
I use iBoost to light a filament pixi light outside of my airing cupboard to encourage the family when to use the major appliances.
In your case, it is obviously better to export. However, you presumably have no way of measuring your export but effectively get paid for it at the import rate.
I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".1 -
What is a filament pixi light?1

Would you advise to heat by gas or electric for morning showers ? I presume iu'd have to set all radiators to zero to minimise gas boiler use .0

If you have a Smart meter I would investigate moving from deemed to metered export and you'll be paid a very attractive rate for every kWhr you export.Myrzo said:Hi

If you have a meter that runs backwards when you export then effectively you get paid for export at the same rate as you pay for import; you won't beat that with a smart meter! And any deemed export payments would be additional to that. The biggest danger I can see of exporting too much is that your illicit activity is more likely to be found out.Reed1

Be aware that you should really report the backwards running meter to your supplier. It means that you are not being charged properly for your imported electricity. The risk you take if you do not do this is that you may get found out when the meter is changed and face a big bill for underpaid imports.

In fact causing a meter to run backwards could well be viewed as a form of tampering with the meter.Reed0

It is an old-fashioned bulb of low wattage, i.e. not halogen, LED, flourescent. The brightness of the bulb will vary.Myrzo said:What is a filament pixi light?I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon.
