Our fridge freezer in now quite old and is a pain to clear the frost from the freezer section.
In terms of cutting down on frost build up, or removing frost, apparently you can now get fridge freezers with either Automatic systems, Manual systems or Frost Free systems. That's what it says on the John Lewis site anyway.
Has anyone any opinion on the advantages/disadvantages of each one?

I assumed that all fridge freezers are frost free - apparently that's wrong. Not defrosted a freezer in over 20 years, so not much help I'm afraid! (Can recommend a Beko if you're looking for a freezer for the garage....)#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661

I have an American style frost free Hisense fridge freezer and it's brilliant. I have no idea how it works but there isn't a spot of frost either on the freezer or on any food. It's been running now for 3 years1

I didn't know there where different ways of a freezer to be frost free (learn something new everyday
)..... mine is a Beko frost free freezer..... all kept frost free by it having a fan that kicks in now and then...... never had a frost build up since purchased (approx 12 yrs ago) 1 -
Thanks folks. I've now seen a pretty good video showing how to defrost a freezer quickly - fill the drawers with hottish water and close the doors for a while. I'll try that method before spending money on a new one.0

AFAIK, the potential disadvantages of frost free are that they are supposed to be less reliable ( more to go wrong), They can also be a bit noisier, and more expensive to buy .HumberFlyer said:I didn't know there where different ways of a freezer to be frost free (learn something new everyday

However no defrosting needed of course !0 -
I’ve used that method for many years on non frost free freezers. Works fine. Just make sure it’s switched off😉 and put plenty of newspaper or old towels down under the door, as even if bottom drawer catches most of the melt, some inevitably trickles out.JohnB47 said:Thanks folks.
