Resolve call trying to chase 20 year old debt

Had a letter this morning from resolve call about a debt from 2011, it was a phone contract that I ended up not paying as their was a dispute with Vodaphone and myself at the time, long story short old contract had about 5 months left went into store asked could I upgrade early, was told yes and the old contract would be cancelled with no early payment etc etc, turned out the guy in the shop lied and a few weeks later a final bill for the 5 months of the old contract arrived, spoke several times to vodaphone who said it was a mistake from the 3rd party, phones 4u and it would have to be paid. Like an idiot being young at the time I told them to forget it and refused to pay (not something I would advise these days) anyway ignored the matter for years and eventually it dropped off the credit report and thought nothing more about it till today.
Then a letter arrived from resolve call (acting on behalf of Intrum who own the debt) telling me I need to pay in 7 days or someone will be round to the house to deal with it in person, called them up told them its stature barred as no contact, CCJ or payment in over 6 years, the man at resolve call said it is not stature barred as no CCJ was ever obtained one still could be obtained even despite six plus years of no contact or payment if a judge granted approval, but I could set up a payment plan to prevent this.
He said failing that I might get a home visit to put me in contact with them and for next steps to be decided upon, not really worried about a home visit I no whoever turns up has no power and will simply be asked to leave, its the CCJ bit that is now worrying me, are resolve call telling the truth that a CCJ could be obtained after all this time ,it does not seem correct to me but really want to confirm it as my money is almost now on track after this and other mistakes years ago and I really do not want this risking putting me back to square one.

P.S the title should say trying to chase a 13 year old debt not a 20 year old one, cant seem to work out how to change that.0

Send them a proveit letter. Chances are they have no real authority and have just bought a bucket of debts for tuppence and are trying to make a profit.
Should anyone visit don't open the door and certainly don't let them in. I wouldn't even be ringing them and deal with everything by snail mail.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. Sounds like you admitted the debt on the phone to them
"...called them up told them its stature barred as no contact, CCJ or payment in over 6 years... "
I'd not have done that - always go down the "prove it" route.0 -
Utter rubbish from the Resolvecall person, they get paid by results so expect them to be economical with the truth.
With a debt from that long ago, go straight in with the statute barred letter, stay off the phone and don`t answer the door to them again.
That should be the end of it, they "could" obtain a judgement, but only if you failed to respond to the LBA and then ignored any claim they made after that.
Once an account is Statute barred under sec 5 limitation act, this is a full defence to any claim.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
