ok, lets look at it from some other customers point of view...

would you like to receive the one that you wish to return???

you may not package it back up to standard and one look inside the box and someone would able to tell someone has used it before them!!!

I work in Argos and see this all the time! Hence the reason why you shouldn't be able to return it.

For future reference...ask to see the product in-store and then if you decide its not big enough then we can repackage it correctly for proper resale.

Would you agree to a one years warranty on a item that has been clearly used?? i know some wont!

Why you need to see the screen on..i have no idea lol

But seeing as we are stressed people at this time of year i would imagine that they would take it back...but poor sole who buys it next!

I see the concept of customer service passed the Argos training team by then?

I have to agree with others on here, I would rather go to an online trader who will give me proper service and a proper returns service tham go to a store who has an attitude like this!

Surely as a high street retailer your biggest selling point is for the customer to compare what they are buying coupled with first class service??????

  • or you could order the item from the argos website as you would be covered by the distance selling regs (which gives you 40days afaik?) but you are still able to return it to a store;)

you can view a item if you ask at customer services NOT the tills as these girls just take payment.
ok the queue at CS is big and we all get irrate at this but it is the holiday season and everyone and his wife is out buying presents.

At my local Argos, the sign on customer service says that customer viewings has been suspended till the new year, so this would not have been possible.

    And re read.

actually pullip johnny was perfectly correct in what he said. we do have a facility at argos called customer view. you take the catalogue number of the item you are interested in to customer services, and subject to it being in stock it will be brought down to customer services for you to view before you buy. if you explain that you want to see x/y/z then within reason* they should have no problems opening it up for you and demonstrating said feature. if your SA is not the best then be persistant but polite.

of course, the best time to do this is very early in the morning when the stores are quiet, and the SAs have more time to spend giving the 1-1 attention and service.

*it is not possible to demonstrate everything, such as electrical items which need a full charge before working, but where we reasonably can, we will.

  • To be fair to customer service, I did ask to view and this was not a problem. I thought for the extra £20 10inch would be better but they could not plug it in for me to see screen lit up. Viewing both items switched off is different to viewing them on. The screen was too big when held on lap(for us that is). I did take it back to Argos and explained the truth and they changed it:D . However, I did go to currys and view the portable dvd players in action and ended up buying a 9inch. Only 1 inch difference but it was not too much when watching close up(I took a dvd and they allowed me to try it)
