Returning an item excluded from the money back gurantee

My first post on here after reading loads of threads. I am fully aware of item not being returnable unless faulty if they are exempt from the 30 day money back gurantee. I bought a portable dvd player yesterday and strange enough I had to take it back today as it did not have the battery in the box. They replaced it. Got the portable dvd player home and tried it but the 10inch screen is too big. I had to decide between a 7inch and 10 inch within a budget. For the extra £20 I thought 10inch was worth it. It was bought for my young child to take on a plane in January to entertain in for a short while. I wish I got the 7inch now and that is the only problem when I buy things from Argos, I can't test electrical stuff.

If I go in there and be honest(as well as really nice:-) as it is only two days later, what are the chances of getting a refund? and does it make a difference if it is a sale item as they are more likely to sell it as I took the last one in stock?

Thank you

Jane

  • don't think it will make a difference being sale stock, but didnt realise these were excluded? to be honest I would say your best bet is to say this one isnt working properly and could you get a refund or a different one as this is your second one, this time of year they are a lot more leniant anyway

Am I missing the point here? Surely you knew how big it would be?

Perhaps her point of reference for 10" was a little out...

    :rotfl:brilliant :T
  • I would say it's faulty keeps going off or something intermintent, they are not qualified electricians and I doubt they are insured to test at the till on return.
I had a problem with them just before xmas with a xmas tree I reserved online and looked at the picture online - it showed a lovely full bush tree and when we got it home it was nothing like the picture it must have took about 8 of the trees stuck together to look a bit like the picture, therefore not as advertised, we took it back the very next day and they said it was excluded from the money back guarentee.!!!
other than before purchasing it pulling it out of the box how on earth would we no what it looked like you have to trust they are showing you as it is:mad:

well they refused our money back at first until we started spouting about trade describtions and all that, to which she replied that we were supposed to bush the branches out (with these none existent branches eh )

anyway did get our money back but always have doubts bout ordering from them again
  • Thanks you to those people with productive feedback. As a couple of people mentioned because you can not try the product in store and then buy, the 10inch screen when playing a dvd was too much if holding it and watching it. I did ask if I could see the 7inch and 10inch screen on but Argos said that they can not do that (which is fair enough). I know that I could take it back and say it is not working but I already took it back for a genuine missing item. Most probably try and take it back and explain and I will let people know if they took it back.

Devild - clearly not much going on in your life and you come on these forums that are there to help people and you choose to insult - what a waste and I think you will find part of the definition of idiot means foolish:D (no need for foolish behaviour on here)
  • ok, lets look at it from some other customers point of view...

would you like to receive the one that you wish to return???

you may not package it back up to standard and one look inside the box and someone would able to tell someone has used it before them!!!

I work in Argos and see this all the time! Hence the reason why you shouldn't be able to return it.

For future reference...ask to see the product in-store and then if you decide its not big enough then we can repackage it correctly for proper resale.

Would you agree to a one years warranty on a item that has been clearly used?? i know some wont!

Why you need to see the screen on..i have no idea lol

But seeing as we are stressed people at this time of year i would imagine that they would take it back...but poor sole who buys it next!

Yep that's all very well jonny but almost every other store accepts returns of such items just because the customer has changed their mind. It's called goodwill......and this is the Christmas season.....I think Argos misses the point at this time of year which is why I buy such items elsewhere.

A good reason not to shop at Argos.

They're not even cheap any more, which for box shifters, they should be.

Most prices can be beaten on the high street, let alone online.

I only set foot in the place to take advantage of mis-prices and glitches.
