Can I claim for trader damage?

I organise repairs at my mums house because she has Parkinsons and dementia. We recently had some render fall off the chimney which was wear and tear and I organised a roofer to come and fix.

He didn't use any scaffolding and the next day a neighbour told me her husband watched him and he was sunbathing on the roof and when he stood up he broke 3 tiles.

I then noticed one of them was lying in the front garden. I asked a him about it and he denied it but said he would come and take a look anyway. He's not come, and I know he won't be. I sense he's also a bit dangerous and don't want to go through trading standards.

I wondered if buildings cover would cover it, if I made a claim through insurance? I will call them but also hoped to get any advice anyone may have of they have had a similar situation.

Many thanks

Have you costed replacing 3 tiles? What is the policy excess? Do you have accidental damage cover on the buildings section?

Under what risk? "Stuff being broken by careless tradespeople" isn't a normal element of cover. I suppose there might be legal protection if you wanted to sue him? But if he's "a bit dangerous" then I'm guessing you don't want to make any sort of claim?

Accidental damage would cover it, of its an option that he selected on the policy. However as DGG alludes to, the cost of getting a couple of tiles fixed (hopefully by a reputable roofer this time) might not be a lot more than the excess on the policy.
