Motorcycle dealer won't accept CC online

in Credit cards
Buying a motorcycle (scooter) from a dealer in the UK but not close to me. There's one locally, but having looked online I found another UK dealer with the same bike but lower priced. They have good reviews, and I contacted them.
I want to pay part on credit card, for the protection, but they said they want the money by bank transfer.
Their price is £2,000 inc. delivery. I can get the same/similar scooter locally for £2,500, and because it's local I can put my card in the machine and therefore pay by credit card. But equally, it's closer by so I can check it out more before deciding to spend.
I haven't applied for my CC yet, but I'm eligible for the one from M+S (plus a few others) and with a deposit either bike is mine, so I'm not concerned about waiting for the card to arrive.
For the added protection, should I look to spend more, and spend locally, just so I can use the 0% credit card? I can afford to buy it cash, so this is solely for extra protection (but there may also be advantages to not handing over the money in bulk, and paying off gradually whilst earning interest on the money. Plus protection if anything is awry, of course).
This would be my first CC, and my first big item purchase.

If you are talking about full payment, most dealers will not accept a CC because of the costs to them. However, you should be able to pay the deposit by CC and balance by bank transfer. Most will accept this.
Whilst I appreciate that £500 is a lot of money (enough to buy all your riding gear) consider carefully whether you want to buy a bike from a dealer so far away. If you have any issues or problems you will need to get it back to them in most cases. This matters more if you are buying something Chinese, which is more likely to have issues.1 -
I think this is the start of a new trend in vehicle sales. Margins are so small that even deposits with large groups are via bank transfer.
Daughter has just had to do it for a new car.
As for OP, are they sure dealer will take a CC for the whole amount? Which is a bit of a moot point if they do not have one yet.Life in the slow lane0 -

have you thought about buying it on finance it will give you the same s75 protection and you can obviously pay it off after a couple of months or so when you are satisfied everything is okay
this assumes the deal offers a finance option of course0 -
