Metro Bank credit card

Have just been told on phone to Metro bank that as of yesterday credit cards for personal customers are no longer available.  Is this true.  I don't have an account with them, am looking to ditch my Santander credit card for a more environmentally friendly credit card.  Any ideas?

We’re not accepting new applications for Personal Credit Cards at this time. Apologies for any inconvenience.

What do you mean by "Environmentally Friendly" - are you looking for one that's made from cardboard rather than plastic or something?  Apologies if I've misunderstood your question.

As above - what is the issue with a Santander card ?
As for the Metro Bank credit card - it is a good choice for the 28 member countries within the SEPA zone.
The problem for applicants is that (until today obviously) you have to attend a branch in person - and their network currently does not extend north of Bradford, none in Scotland or NI and only one place in Wales.
Perhaps they are looking at opening out applications on the internet ?
Or they may be planning to change the Ts&Cs for new applicants ?

It appears this may be permanent.
Haven't noticed any of the media picking up on this though.

Interesting. As I've been saying on here for years, it's actually incredibly hard to make money out of responsibly used credit cards these days.

I heard that Metro Bank were looking to focus on other areas - whatever that might mean.
Restricting applicants to personal branch visits effectively excluded huge numbers of wanabee credit card holders.
I don't think any other credit card issuing player in the market has such a policy.

Still nothing about this on the internet as far as I can see - save Metro Bank's brief notice on their website.

Just has a letter to say that Metro bank are withdrawing credit cards from their range of services. No new cards will be issued and all existing cards and accounts will close as at 10th September 2024.

Need to rethink my spending habits in Europe.

Definitely think about any purchases involving goods or services delivered in the future, especially after 10/09.
I had the old John Lewis card which I used to pay for my car tax. However after the card was closed I wanted to SORN the car. I should have got a refund, but then it might have been messy getting the refund. Didn't want to risk it, so let the car tax run its course, then SORN'ed the car as the tax expired.
