That sounds very distressing for you.

It's a bit late now, but many people here have several accounts, and don't switch their 'main' account, or at least have another one giving access to banking facilities while waiting.
Or failing that, if switching one's main account is the preferred option, then at least waiting until the new account is fully up and running (cards/PINs in use, online access tested, money in/out validated, etc) before initiating the switch, rather than hoping that everything will fall into place and being exposed if it doesn't.  That's not to excuse poor performance from Santander here of course, but just highlighting the value of prudent planning....
Yeah absolutely. It just keeps you covered for if things like getting access to your info and a Santander (or really any bank) takes some time.

well this isnt how it works. I was told my application was successful and my account was open, the switch date is agreed upon at the application stage. I gave a timeline of 12 days. Plenty of time huh? They sent me a debit card which doesnt work. I cant access the online banking. I asked them to cancel the switch when this looked like it wasnt going to work,  they said they cant do it. Ive just been on the phone to them again, they are refusing to give me any of my money so that i can pay my rent, they say there is nothing at all they can do I just have to wait. I have spoken to the complaints department and they have logged it. but their advice is to phone my landlord and say im having some money problems. seriously.
