My kitchen (3.4m by ~2.4m) only has 8 base units - If it wasn't for a door at one end, I'd be able to squeeze a couple more in. But 13 units sounds a lot for such a small space... If this number includes wall units, at just 2.2m wide, it is going to feel very cramped. That "bump out" in the middle of the worktop is going to eat in to the already limited space.

When I did my kitchen, I rejected wall units, went for a light colour scheme (very pale yellow on the walls), and plenty of lights. As a result, the space feels very open and looks much larger. OK, storage is an issue, but it reduces the tendency to horde useless crap.

It’s all negotiable with Howdens. Try pricing it with DIY kitchens for a comparison. If you still want to go to Howdens ask them to price match.
