17 travelling to Spain ryan Air or easyjet

My 17 year old son is going to Spain to visit his Uncle.

what documentation does he need beside a passport?

does he need a signed letter? does it need to be verified by a solicitor?

it seems vague online with conflicting info

It could depend on what nationality he is, what passport(s) he has and what evidence he has of his residence in the UK.

If he is a British Citizen and only has a British passport, he doesn't have to have any letter, but it would be good practice to give him a letter confirming that he is travelling with your permission and naming his uncle. The letter doesn't need to be signed by a solicitor. I would include English text and a Spanish Translation of that text.

Google translate is good in my experience - enter the English text and the Spanish translation comes up alongside very quickly.

Then you can cut n' paste the latter direct to a Microsoft Word page for printing.

It would be good to give the uncle written permission to authorise any urgent medical treatment , if necessary.

Ive travelled to Spain as a 16 year old on my own and I needed nothing and no questions were asked, although this was 25 years ago and maybe things have changed now
