COPD Caused by Coal Mining

Good Afternoon,
I'm looking to see if anyone can help with this, My Dad Passed away recently and because he was a coal miner the hospital refed him to the coroner as he died from a lung related condition.
When the coroner concluded his investigation he noted on the death certificate Conclusion Industrial Disease Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and Bronchiectasis
He Said to me that I would possibly have grounds to pursue a claim on his behalf ( the money would certainly help pay towards the funeral) I have Tried the Government website and have been told there claims for COPD due to mining have closed and gave me a website for a Lawyer.
I've been reading about the IIDB claim and got myself completely confused in the end.
Does anyone have any knowledge or advise
Thank you so Much
Louise

Don't forget that if you are in a union they might be able to help as well, doesn't just need to be one associated with miners even though they will have the closest experience.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. I used to work for a law firm that specialised in doing industrial disease claims for miners (including posthumous Bronchitis/Emphysema).. but that was at the time special scheme was running to deal with huge numbers of claims against British Coal. It was quite a humbling experience meeting many who could not speak properly or at all due to industrial illness and indeed could not read or write due to lacking education in their youth. Quite a few claimants died during the process.
I agree with above... I'd try to find a union or lawyer that could have knowledge in this area to see if any posthumous claims are possible now."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack1 -

Also just checking you are aware of funeral payments you may be able to claim, and that if there is money in the estate then the funeral is a priority, and the funeral director will claim direct from the bank.Signature removed for peace of mind1
