Why can't I print HUGE numbers out on piece of A4 paper from LibreOffice writer?

My Sister wants to print out a sign for her shop window. She asked me to do it because her computer fails to print it. So...I said I would do it. I went into Libreoffice writer. Chose the number 1. Set the font size to 800 and Low and behold it won't work for me either. When Sister tries to print, her machine does nothing. When I try it on my machine I just get a small number on the paper when it does print. What is happening here please?

From those rulers that doesn't look like a standard sheet of A4 in the paper settings. Most domestic printers will only do A4 sheets and if you tell them anything else they'll just guess as what you're trying to do to make it fit on A4 - and the result will often be described as "interesting".1

Does it still happen if you save the document as PDF, then open and print the PDF?

Personally for this kind of job I'd use letter images (or PDFs) rather than using a WP font.Search "a4 size letters to print free" and you find plenty of choice.I just found this which looks perfect for what you/your sister wants:

I haven't actually printed from that yet, no printer here, but there are font and colour options and the downloaded PDF looks good. I've bookmarked that page for my own future use.

When I need to print something oversize (I do some diagrams in Inkscape that are larger than A4) I export them to PDF (the software has a function to do that, not by using the "Microsoft PDF Printer" method) and then the Acrobat reader can print in "poster" mode with alignment marks so I can tape the various pages together in the correct place.
At 72 points to the inch, it might just be that your 800-point text doesn't fit inside the A4 page when you take into account margins. 800 points is 11.11 inches, the sheet of A4 is 11.7 inches, how big are the margins?1 -
Throwback to 2003 - you could save it to an image file and use the

You could also include images/ graphics and have it scale them up for you...
