loan instant repayment

I'm wondering if any one knows of anything similar to this situation: our son is in his final year at uni - he's had letters and emails from Student finance to say that his loan for 2021/22 should have been zero and they want the full £9488 repaid as soon as possible. He subsequently received further communication from SF saying that this was the result of a technical issue, all his loans were correct, and that they'd send his contact details to a different team, so that no more letters would be generated. That was in November, and he's still getting demands for repayment - they even rang him three weeks ago while he was trying to finish his dissertation. The latest one said that if he didn't repay in full, they'd take the debt from future loans - as he's intending to do a Masters, and will apply for another loan, this is worrying. Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so, how was it resolved? I know that loan repayment doesn't need to begin till the April after graduates start work (at the earliest) so how is this demand even possible?
