Council tax discounts

I have been offered a place at university to do my registered nurse training beginning March 2008 and I have read that student nurses are exempt from council tax anyone know if thats true.
Secondly we are a bit complicated i.e I live with my husband and 2 kids and I am not leaving my job to do my training rather I am being seconded by the NHS (my employer) to do it.,
Anyone know anything about it ? I havent got a clue dont know whether it matters or not but we live in gateshead tyne and wear

Hi Poppy,
It depends on the exact course that you are doing, and if you are doing it full time or part time.
If you are eligible, because you live with your hubby you would be entitled to a 25% single person discount rather than a full exemption. However, if your husband is on a low income, he would be able to apply for HB xGone ... or have I?0 -
It really depends on the course as dmg says. I am at uni and get the 25% discount because my hubby is the only other adult in the house. If you have adult children you won 't be eligible unless they too are at university.0

Thanks for the replies the course title is Nursing Studies/Registered Nurse: Learning Disabilities (BSc (Hons))
and here is a link to the course http://northumbria.ac.uk/?view=CourseDetail&code=UUFNSL1
Forgot to say I am doing it Full time
My children are small will be 5yrs and 1yrs when I start I will not be getting the bursary though because of the secondment I will be paid a wage which is mid point band 3 on A4C pay scale and I thought this may affect things and just trying to make sure I am not going to try and claim something I am not entitled to.
Thanks again x:j:love: Getting married to the man of my dreams 5th November 2011

I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure that as you are studying for the BSc on a full time basis you should qualify xGone ... or have I?0

All the letter which entitled you to council tax discount says is that you are a student on a full time course which started XX and is due to end YY. So that shouldn't be a problem0
