Car purchased from Motorpoint and it had a pre-delivery inspection 18/04/2023, where the oil was changed but oil filter not fitted. That person then part-ex it to MB dealer, where we then purchased in January 2024, unaware it had been through the Motorpoint system and the service was not complete.

Surprised Motorpoint sell new Mercedes.
They make no mention of new cars on their website.

So when was car actually registered?

Not that this makes any difference. Your company needs to deal with this, as they bought it.

Pre-reg, delivery miles, low mileage lease and ex demos seem to be Motorpoint's specialism...

It's not your car, let your firm deal with it. I suspect they don't care, it's just a company car. It's not your cherished pride and joy.

Apart from repeating "Not your problem, but your employer's" - I would remind you that the usual consumer rights legislation does not apply here, since it was a business-to-business transaction.

The time to check service history is before purchase, not four months after.

It's a B2B (Business to Business) transaction, consumer rights don't apply so your employer will need to deal with it if they consider it an issue but rejection under CRA isn't an option.

OP's employer seems to be at least the third owner.

1. New.
2. Bought from supermarket, April 2023
3 (OP's employer) - Bought from MB dealer, January 2024

"Second year service" is stated as having been booked by the OP in April 2024, so it's likely it was Spring 2022 registered. It seems to have been serviced, albeit not by an MB dealer and with some question over whether the service met the criteria for warranty for a "first year service", in January 2023. Service intervals look to be 12mo/10k.

Reading between the lines, I'm guessing that it was April 2022 reg'd, the first service was done in Jan 2023 on mileage, which would mean the second service (in the OP's employer's ownership) was three months late.

MB's "approved used" doesn't appear to have any specific qualifying criteria, just seems to cover all used MBs sold by an MB dealer.

PDIs are often done on used cars too.  It's often used in marketing.
