Nationwide switch from Chase

Hi, newbie here :)

Thinking about switching a Chase current account that has a couple of direct debits, to a FlexAccount I already have with Nationwide.
Have already opened a 2nd Chase current account, but would I have to close the savings account I have with Chase too ?
Would the Chase debit card become invalid & I'd have to get a new one to use with the 2nd Chase current account ?

Also, would a direct debit paying off my credit card each month be a valid direct debit to switch ?

Since you have a second Chase current account, this makes you eligible for the savings account, so I don't think you need to close it.
You can't use your debit card on one account to access funds on another account.
Any active direct debt would qualify - even one that just pays the rare eBay fees.
  • Ahh, so I'd need to wait for a 2nd card in order to be able to use the 2nd Chase account. Good to know, thanks.
I have 3 direct debits on that account - utility, mobile phone, plus paying off the credit card. Looks promising, thanks  :)

You only ever get one chase card. Additional current accounts are very readily available, but they are like a strange hybrid between a current account and a savings account and they all use the same card.

Lots of people have reported switching a second or third or more chase account successfully. Some of them give the debit card number, some don't. Both ways have been reported as working.

Yeah, been in touch with Chase & they've explained how to switch the current account served by the card so would still be the same one.
If they're doing away with the 1% interest rate on current accounts as reported, I'll only be using them for savings now anyway (& won't need the card).

But surely the attraction was the 1% cashback on everyday spending from the current account, not the meagre 1% interest!

True, but I get ½% cashback using Barclaycard too (& 1% on my Nationwide FlexDirect but don't tend to keep much in there). The 5% on roundups was good at the time too, but now the savings account is boosted to 5.1% for a few months, that's lost it's appeal a bit.
I've started the switch, if Nationwide cancel the debit card (which they should), I'll see how easy to persuade Chase to send another, or whether I can, in fact (as they've told me today), just swap it to the 2nd account there. I'll see how it pans out.

You can select in the app, what account you want associated with the card.

CASS doesnt cancel a card itself, you just give the authority to close down the account matching the sort code and account number, you give for the switch.

The card itself, won't be affected.  That's why it doesn't have any numbers on it, for that reason.
