British Gas billed on 12 months

British Gas billed me after 12 months and 6 months of that being issues and dealings with the ombudsman, but the majority of the readings are all expected readings and they’ve deleted all of my inputted readings. Luckily I do take photos of my readings when I do them. But they haven’t done anything to notify me of saying I should up my direct debit. Is there anything I can do? I’ve done the maths and some of my readings aren’t on the exact dates that they bill between as they do them on the firsts of months so it’s not very accurate but it would probably work out more expensive if I were to argue my actual readings, so not too fussed about that but in terms of the direct debit raising, it poses an issue as my account is now nearly £1000 debt, which really isn’t ideal, and can’t see that clearing by winter time.

Can you not just pay extra off your bill each month anyway while you are trying to get the direct debit resolved ?
Or put the money aside in a separate account. If they are sitting on their hands, then be proactive in managing the situation yourself.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

With Octopus, you can adjust your direct debit online/app, can you do that with BG?

If you increase it now, it'll slowly eat into the debt.
