We keep an old I Phone SE on the side in the kitchen to control the Sonos system.

About 2 weeks ago, it started to lose battery quite quickly. I put it down to old aged and wondered what to do.
On Friday night it was reading 1%. It asked me if I wanted to use 'low power mode' but I declined and thought I'd leave it to shut off ... but it didn't!
We went away for the weekend and when we came home on Monday evening, it was still running and showing 1%.
I charged it back up overnight. Tuesday afternoon it was dropping and got to 1% again by Tuesday night.
This evening, Wednesday, it's still on 1%
Battery health shows 83% 'maximum capacity'
Anything I can do apart from live with it?

Not sure at which level you are running a "Sonos system" ie how many speakers, what generation they are etc, but later versions support voice control via alexa. For example Sonos1 and Beam. Maybe ditch the Iphone SE?

One of the signs of a battery that’s on the way out is that it behaves erratically. Things like the battery level (which is based on the voltage and current drawn) changing wildly.

The battery health is a calculation/forecast and trails any changes in the battery so it’s not unusual to see a relative okay health but misbehaving battery. Especially if the phone has been used in a non-optimal way. (Let completely discharge or kept at 100 % for long periods)

what I would do is make sure the phone is backed up, then do a factory reset. Then restore from the backup or if it’s genuinely only used for Sonos then just re-install the Sonos App.

If it’s still playing up then time to get the battery swapped.

If anyone suggest ‘calibrating’ the battery by charging to 100% then discharging to 0% then ignore them. That won’t work and if the battery is in poor health could cause it to swell or even catch fire.

On an older iPhone a battery change from a phone place will be about £30  -good for a few more years with a new battery.

We have two Sonos One speakers and a Sonos Roam - we dislike voice control in any of its guises, sorry! 😇

But ... have you seen the latest Sonos App? It has many thousand 1 star reviews! ;-)

  • You Apple People do seem to get very exercised by this "Battery Health" thing on your phones.

How on earth have us poor Android users managed for all these years without something telling us when our phone batteries are poorly?

presumably this the old 2016 model?  They do seem to ‘go off a cliff’ when the battery has reached end of life

    2. Now look for Battery information. If it doesn't appear, then you are unfortunately locked out from this method.

My iPhone 6S does exactly the same - more so when it gets cold. It'll drop from 80% to 1% in the blink of an eye, and then stay there for ages. I'm sure I read somewhere that it's a known issue prior to iPhone 8.
