Shedman said:Well I wasn't expecting that on a Saturday afternoon. Just had the email from HMCTS to say that probate has been granted. The online tracker never moved from Documents Received (and I checked yesterday evening) so not sure what use it actually is. Still this is really good news.
My timeline was:
19 May Probate applied for online (this was actually earlier than I indicated above as I hadn't actually checked date when I responded to Famau)
20 May Docs sent Special Delivery and were signed for on 21 May
31 May Email saying Documents Received and tracker updated to show this
08 Jun Email stating Probate Granted
so less than 3 weeks (and including a Bank Holiday).
That's great news - almost identical timeline to me. Hopefully this experience will give hope and a sort of target for others to aim for....

Grand - seems to be a bit of a pattern with me and Shedman also getting similar times. Now it's the next stage of dealing with estate - Simple for me I hope, except for a wait for HMRC to state tax due to date of death - and then for me to calculate tax due during administration period. Unfortunately there a re a couple of chunky fixed rate accounts that mature later this month and which will be subject to 20% tax i believe. If they'd matured just before my mother's death they would have been free of tax as under her annual limit. Que sera....

I find that very interesting that you were able to obtain grant of probate so quickly. As a comparison, the Executor of my Late Father’s Estate took 9 months to obtain grant of probate in 2021 and as of yet still has not distributed The Estate in full.0

Goodness me that seems a long time. My mother's estate was very simple - her house had been sold when she went into care and everything was in a few bank accounts. Easy, therefore, to work out the estate values. Also, I found applying for probate myself to be surprisingly easy - using a solicitor for simple estates seems to add time and potentially huge cost. The online probate process is really simple and fair play to HMCTS - they have streamlined the process and it should be suitable for most I would think.
