Howdens and payment methods for kitchen

Hi
I may not have anything to worry about here but I wanted to check to make sure.

I've ordered a new kitchen from Howdens and paid an initial deposit of £500.00 by credit card.

The designer has advised that it is better to pay the remaining balance via debit card as if I pay by  bank transfer there is always the chance that it will take  their national admin department a while to trace my payment. If this were to happen they might not be able to release the kitchen to my address until the payment is traced.

I'd much rather pay the balance using my credit card and then the remainder by bank transfer. I also don't think I have anywhere near the credit limit on my debit card to pay the full amount on that.

Grateful for any thoughts and advice.

Debit cards don't have a credit limit.

You've already got the protection by paying your deposit on credit card, so there's no extra benefit there.

If you paid the remainder on credit card, what balance would then be due for bank transfer?

I'm not quite sure what question you want answering here.

Hi. I was just wondering if there is anything to be wary of by being asked to pay the remaining balance of £9k via debit card instead of via bank transfer. It just seems an unusual request as most companies are either pay by credit card or bank transfer only. Hope this explains by question. Thanks

It is not so unusual to pay for large items by debit cards. It seems to be quite common for vehicle purchases.
However there are some possible disadvantages.
Firstly you need to have enough money in your current account to support the payment.
and you lose some consumer protection.

Hi Albermarle. I've already paid the deposit via credit card so I should have consumer protection I think.

It might just be a quirk that the advisor has encountered.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Howdens and they've never asked us for payment a particular way in 20 something years.

    Pay however you want to.
