Are there any good comparison removal sites?
I have started with Shiply, but it seems everyone and anyone is quoting there from 1 man and his van. We don´t want super cheap, but also don´t have the budget for expensive branded removals.
As we are moving in a mutual exchange the move will be on a Saturday, for which a lot seem to charge an excess for.
Just wondered if i am missing a good comparison site that has quality removers, not just quantity, and where i can see independant reviews.
We are moving from Oxfordshire to Berkshire (40 mins away) if that helps?
Just would appreciate some direction as volume of shiply quotes has scared me lol

What sort of quotes do you want? Binding ones so you know that is the cost of the full removal? Or ones were you tell them its 30 boxes and 4 large pieces of furniture/white goods and you obvious have to pay the difference if it turns out to be more than that?
No comparison site is going to be able to do the former for you as that does require a tour of your property. We made the mistake of getting one company to come and quote and then used their estimate to get other prices. We went with one of the others but it turned out they'd underestimated so in saving £75 we ended up paying £250 more because their price was based on boxes not the entire flat.
We've used SimplyRemovals a few times and they've always been competitive and efficient on the day. One other company did sound less stressful (packing the day before) but wanted 4x the price.1 -
The last time we moved we used a local family run firm. They had been in the business for many years and had many 5* reviews. They weren’t the cheapest but they were extremely efficient. We used a part packing service mainly for the kitchen items and glassware. The owner of the firm came round in person and asked questions and made detailed notes before sending us a written quote. When they arrived at the new house they inspected it to have a good idea where everything was going before unloading the vans. They used 2 medium vans rather than a big one as we were living on a farm with narrow access.
They had big padded bags to protect the tv, mirrors, paintings and backs of sofas/chairs. They set up my electric hospital style bed and made sure it was working. My advice would be to use an experienced family firm if you can find one.1 -
Thanks all, I didn´t realise there are pricing structures that will cost more if you have more than stated. We wouldn´t know how many boxes we had until a couple of days before the move, so will only go for the fixed price...... thanks for making me aware of that.
I´ll head over to Facebook and see what the locals recommend.
Thank you all once again.0 -
Your best asking locally to either end of the move for recommendations.
It's also generally advised to not do the move / exchange of keys on a weekend because if something goes wrong then the odds of getting hold of estate agent or solicitor are virtually zero.
