Private Health Insurance - how soon can I claim?

My wife & I have 3 children: 6, 4 & 3.
Our eldest had poor hearing, affecting his speech etc which was flagged by a speech therapist. He has some hearing tests done confirming he had “glue ear” he was then on a waiting list to see a consultant on the NHS
The current waiting time to see a consultant in our area is 64 weeks, with a further 174 weeks to get the procedure to help with the glue ear.
So we went private. The first quote we got was a little over £4k, but we then got it done at another private clinic for £1,700. There was an immediate improvement.

The consultant we seen advised us to get private medical care as these issues with the ears can be hereditary. Our 4 year old is now constantly saying “what”.
This hasn’t been flagged by a Dr or speech therapist etc, but we feel that she probably has the same issue as our eldest had
My question is: if I purchased private medical insurance for the family now, would we be able to get her seen privately as it’s not a “pre-existing condition” as it hasn’t been flagged anywhere yet?
& how soon after taking out insurance can you make use of it typically?

step one is if you work for a large ish company do they have a health package? this might be cheapest and allow more immediate access. always check the T&Cs of course. just know that there is an issue might make it a pre-existing condition even if it's not officially diagnosed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. If you believe your 4 year old is already displaying symptoms then it is pre-existing condition for them. For personal PMI it is likely any pre-existing conditions will be excluded, if your employer offers PMI then it may or may not cover pre-existing conditions.0

Your 4 year old is showing symptoms and you suspect she has a health condition. For personal PMI they tend to exclude these things. If you're fortunate enough to get PMI through your employer, pre-existing medical conditions are often covered. My partner and I used to purchase PMI on a personal basis but now we have this cover provided by our employers.
