Our composite front door is looking very shabby and weathered due to being exposed to alot of direct sunlight over the last 12 years. Can anyone advise on the best type of paint to use for repainting it, to give it the best chance of surviving more damage from the sun?
(EDITED: corrected from UPVC to composite)

Does the door have a wood texture embossed in it?

Have you given it a good clean ?0 -
Yes it has a wood texture. Cleaning doesn't help much. It's definitely UPVC

What colour do you fancy?
There are specialist paints for plastics like this, including uPVC which is what this layer could be.
Very possibly Zinsser AllCoat will do the job, but check online.
In any event, clean down thoroughly, and apply thin coats so's it dries thinly and shows the grain. Two coats, at least, will be needed, but your door should be transformed.
Do you know the make of door?0 -

What is the outer skin usually made from on a composite door? A thermoset plastic or resin?

The OP's one seems to have aged prematurely, which could indicate some issues during its manufacture. Maybe using cheap materials, or cutting back on expensive additives that help to resist UV . Just a guess.
