Depositing cheque via post

I have received a TV licence refund as a cheque. Is it safe, nowadays, to just put it in an envelope with a paying in slip and post it? (I'm disabled and can't easily get to the bank to deposit ti)

Can you get to a post office?  Those with a banking function will take cheques to be deposited.

But if not worst that can happen is that the cheque gets lost and you need to request another.

Or  maybe a friend could drop the cheque off at the branch?  That would be quickest.

If you have a banking app on your phone, first check that you can't deposit it via that. Many banks allow you to take a photo from within the app to deposit a cheque without the need to go anywhere.

With my bank First Direct, the Post Office did not have any envelopes for the cheque. So FD told me to post the cheque with a paying in  slip to an address in Northamptonshire. I should not send the cheque to their head office in Leeds. This was in 2020 or 2021.  I was quite happy to do that  and the cheque was paid in a few days later.
Perhaps contact your bank and ask where to post a cheque that you want paying in into your account?
My one experience of this situation worked well.

I've been posting cheques for years, right back to the old days of Girobank. Never had a problem. My bank (Co-op) still have a freepost address for cheques, probably because they haven't bothered to introduce a scan-in option.

Do you not use your banks app on your phone? Most have the ability to pay in a cheque by taking a photo of the front and rear in the banking app.

As mentioned doing it with the app is the simplest. Which bank are you with?
