Met police and speeding

Options
I was doing 32 in a 20 zone (unknowing that it was a 20 zone). After contacting met police they wrote an email to me stating that I would be offered a fixed penalty course offer letter. However in the post they sent me a letter stating that I would be receiving points on my licence. When I called them up they said the word course shouldn't have been written to & it was incorrect. The information they sent me was misleading. Do I have any legal grounds to stand on re: their email?

nope.  They are under no obligation to even offer fixed penalty.  Top speed for course is 31mph, so you're close, but no cigar.

You can't not know it was a 20 zone. You may not have noticed it was a 20 zone, but as always Ignorance is no defence. An email is not legally binding in this case.

As above, absolutely none. If you do not accept the fixed penalty they will prosecute you in court. If convicted there, you will pay a fine of a week's net income (reduced by a third if you plead guilty), a surcharge of 40% of that fine and prosecution costs of around £90. You will also receive either a ban of up  28 days or between four and six points (with the overwhelming likelihood being four points).

If you do accept the fixed penalty do not forget to submit your driving licence details as instructed. \if you fail to do so your £100 will be returned and you will face court action..

Correct because claiming this will mean the OP now admits "driving without due care and attention".
