Packaged bank accounts: Travel Insurance

I'm doing a couple of trips over the summer. Looking at travel insurance, and a year's policy is about £200.
I can get a packaged current account for £10pm including travel insurance. I can't see anything stopping my upgrading one of my accounts and then downgrading it again after I've done my trips.  Is there anything I'm missing that should prevent me, or suggest I shouldn't do this?
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

  • You would be within your rights to downgrade at any point as far as I can see. All packaged accounts vary with respect to level of cover on travel insurance, so the cheapest ones will usually be restricted to European travel.

Check if there's an age limit.  Many of them won't cover anyone over 70 and also anyone with any serious health conditions.  I've recently cancelled ours even though they would cover me at 66 but not my OH at 64 due to various health issues.  It was then cheaper for the 2 of us to get a policy which would cover the OH's issues rather than us having separate policies.  Plus making a claim would have been more complicated.

Otherwise it's very much like getting any other travel insurance - check you're happy with the T&Cs.  I quite agree that it's a cheaper option generally but again - check if there's anything re how long you have the policy if you need to claim (before and after).

You might find that two single trip insurance policies is a more realistic benchmark than an annual one?

Yeah, I thought about that. But might end up being three or four trips.  Plus I think it breaks almost even to just pay 3 or 4 months packaged bank account, rather than pay singularly. Plus it saves faff.

We're under the various age limits and nothing that would require any other complications. All UK/European travel, so nothing particularly that warrants special conditions

Fair enough - perhaps also worth noting that the only £10 one I can see (Club Lloyds Silver) goes up to £11.50 next month, but still some way short of £200!

I found recently when looking at pricing for a month long trip an annual policy was slightly cheaper than a single trip. That was with the same company.

I was looking at the BoS one, which is the same as Lloyds, but can save another £2pm by paying £4300 in
