What's this cable?

Options
Found on floor of mil's cupboard. She'd recently taken delivery of a second-hand mob scooter, but don't know if it's connected.
Cable has a 'DC' style plug at one end as shown, small, around 2.5mm? The other end has a solid moulded block, with 'Tek' embossed on it.
What the?! Cheers.

It looks like it was a power cable at one point, the first picture is a nice picture of your nails but the end of the cable is out of focus so cannot see how/why its become blanked off. If it was then that end normally would have been hard wired to an adapter/convertor for stepping down mains power to something the device could handle. Looks small for a laptop but there are thousands of small devices that take similar.

Ultimately the plug end is simply a male 2 pole connector so if not an unearthed power cable could be a range of other things but a better photo of the other end is required

Yes, would need better pictures of the end to be certain.

If the non-plug end is completely enclosed then it might be a sensor that plugs into something else.

    Thanks.
Sorry - I hadn't realised it was out of focus - I'll take some more pics when next over.
Yes, it's a sealed capsule, so I guess a sensor of some type - 'hall' or similar.

Mobility scooters chargers pretty much invariably use a 3-pole metal plug connection known as XLR --- the same as used for professional low impedance balanced microphones.

I've no suggestions as to what that cable might be though...

As the square end is fully enclosed then it looks like it may be a speed sensor cable, so may well be off the mobility scooter.
Such sensors are often used to control/limit the top speeds on electric bikes and scooters.
Is the speedo on the scooter working?
Go over the scooter to see if there is anywhere the round jack should be plugged into, you may have to take panels off.
Possibly near the instrument cluster? (Although if it's used as a limiter maybe not, maybe nearer the motor).
The cable length should then give a clue where the sensor end might go.
Possibly near a wheel/brake disc (from the length of it probably), or the motor?
What make/model is the scooter, the repair manual should help identify if it is from the scooter and if so then where it should go.

The speedo works - I got the baby over 8mph... :-)

It's a TGA Breeze S3, but everything seems to work on it. She has the booklets too, so I'll have a look through them.

Ah, it's 'CTEK tm'. That makes it part of the new charger than that the seller provided along with the scooter - it has the 'comfort' connector.
I'll check the online instructions to see what this part does.

    It's a temperature sensor! Lawdie.
    That's quite a charger - around £150's worth

Good to hear that you identified it and now know what it's for. Temp not speed then, i'd have expected a metal cased tip for a temp sensor but silicone can handle high temps.
    Thanks for letting us know.
PS. Looking at the price of those TGA S3 scooters £150 probably wasn't much of an extra for the original buyer, and may have been part of a deal.

Yes, they are silly money new, but mil got a bargain at around a haggled £500 - she tried to haggle up, and them down!
At 83 years old, she fancied going on Facebook, and a long-lost niece got in touch. The scooter belonged that lady's dad, who was married to mil's mad sister, and who'd passed away a few years ago. The scooter sat in their garage since. He would have been chuffed to know the scooter stayed in the family!
    It's quite a beast - great fun :-)
