Isn't this Occupation Question on Insurance a bit dated Now??

In these days of Zero Contract Hours and Agency Work.Things are much more pacey now.Yet you could still get your insurance voided if you have the wrong occupation mentioned.
Currently I have 4 Certificates of Insurance for the same period and have changed my Finance Agreement with Close Brothers 4 times. It doesnt help that I thought I had retired and then got bored at home .....and resurrected my work pattern (for how long tho)

Why?
Do you think a footballer or musician should pay the same as a retired person, or a taxi driver compared to someone who just commutes to & from work & car is parked in a secure car park all day?
Given the former are far more likely to suffer damage from other people?Life in the slow lane0 -

An "Office Administrator" is still an "Office Administrator" even if the individual moves between several jobs from "Records Clerk" in a school to "Maintenance Scheduler" for a housing association to "Medical Records Assistant" at a hospital, etc.0 -

Some people do have multiple feathers to their bow but insurers allow you to declare more than one job and I suspect most people are cycling between a handful at most and dont really do hundreds of different things.
Obviously you have pointed the second problem in that they often ask for industry as well as occupation. It can be harder but there are often some wider titles and there is always a debate of if you are say a Helpdesk Manager for an insurer should you choose your industry as IT, Insurance, Insurance Company or Financial Services? Clearly choosing the first option gives you more scope if you do some moonlighting on an out of hours Helpdesk for a supermarket.0 -
Again....I go back to the Zero Hours Contract....
Some people are at the mercy of the Employment Agencies.
One day they could be in a Paint Factory...the next delivering Parcels and the next a Steward at a Football Match. To take on the employ either they are winging it (if they drive to work) or Insurance isnt quite the Science we all think it is.It only manifests itself when there is a claim??0 -

Most won't ask for evidence of your job even at claim stage unless there are pointers that you aren't being honest. That said, there are a few well known intermediaries who do check lots of your answers after you buy and will charge you for correcting answers you guesstimated rather than answering accurately.0 -

To comment on the earlier quote: I've been various types of 'office administrator' for more years than I care to mention. Insurers have always asked the type of industry in which I administrate, however I can't say I've noticed job changes making any difference to the price. Perhaps it's because the various jobs have always required, give or take, the same style of commuting: drive to a single place of work during the morning rush hour and schlep home again through the evening snarl. The only real variation has been whether the office in question has its own car park. I've always had business insurance too, to cover exciting work-mandated tasks such as attending training courses in a different office.1
