Rented room only - contents insurance

Have recently moved into a house share and looking for room only contents insurance. Have been told by most insurance companies that if ie the person who lives in room number 4 or their guest decides to kick my door in and steal from me then I will not be covered. But if Joe Bloggs walking down the street decides to kick the front door in then I am covered? Does anyone know any insurance companies that do cover my room. Thanks

If they just walk into your room and steal, you might not be covered on standard policies, but if they force entry then you would usually be covered on room-only contents.0 -
Have you got a lock to your room with your own key?
If not you will find it difficult to get insurance.0 -

Most Contents/Home insurance is designed to be for the whole dwelling and so you and your flatmates would buy a policy between you. That works ok when it's a group of friends doing it but sounds like you are moving in with a bunch of strangers?
There are more specialist policies which are suitable for a room share but often specialist/niche products are relatively more expensive than mass market.
As to theft, any property containing non-family members is going to require evidence of violent/forced entry. In a normal home policy it would be into the dwelling so a guest invited in wouldn't be covered but hopefully a room related policy would cover someone invited into the property but they break into the room. You would need to read your policy though because these are niche and so not "industry standards" like other classes0
