How do I claim the Disability element on UC?

Hi all

We are now in reciept of DLA and would like to claim the disability element for our child on UC. How do I do this?

When I go to "report a change of circumstances" and then go to Health, it goes under my name and asks me about my ability to work however nothing to report under my child's name?

I have put it in the journal too but no reply. Any help would be appreciated

On the change of circumstances page rather than "Health" (which as you say is your health) shound it not be reported under "Children and other people who live with you"?
ie. Put note there that your child has been awarded DLA and so the Disabled Child Element should now be added to your UC.

  • Thank you very much Newcad! That worked

    Good to hear.
If it isn't included in your next UC statement/payment then I'd put a follow up note on your Journal using 'A Payment' or 'Service Issues' (I think those are the names from memory, close enough that you'll recognise them anyway) when it asks you what the note is about.
Those two options get flagged for the attention of your Case Manager rather than your Work Coach.
