That's very interesting actually...I'm pretty sure with Netflix, for example, when you're travelling you can watch whatever Netflix has on offer in the country you're in? Am I wrong with this?

Netflix works differently.  It doesn't really have the same "arm" setup as Amazon (ie amazon.co.uk, amazon.de, amazon.es for example) and is probably a better example of a more centralised system.

Prime is more regional based, but you can buy from Amazon with the one log in regardless of where you signed up so its not totally separated.

Netflix is different, you always see what's available in the country where you are physically located (or it thinks you are if you are using VPN). We signed up to Netflix Premier whilst overseas several years ago (we were over there for 6 months) and so pay about £12/month rather than the £18 but still get UK content

Amazon is different, you always see the content of your home region but limited by what geographic limits it has on streaming into other countries. In practice I've typically found 50% or more becomes unwatchable if you are out of your home region though it may be less material were you in neighbouring regions (eg US -v- Mexico)
