Cheap new smartphone

I need a spare phone for use in emergency situations etc
any suggestions? I assume they’ll be locked to a network?

keep an eye out for what's on sale occasionally at Aldi/Lidl.  Alternatively get something cheap second hand from Cex,

Should be able to get something decent around the £100 mark. Doesnt' have to be locked to a network, no - you can get some very cheap sims as well.

Ask friends or family if they have old ones sat in a drawer 👍

avoid 2nd hand as the battery may be old and on its way out!

What do you need the phone to do? Do you even need a smart phone, or will a very basic phone do?

Good deal, the Argos page linked to says that a £10 Vodafone PAYG top-up will be added to the purchase at check-out, it isn't, nor is the phone locked to Vodafone.

The Nokia 105 is a couple of £ cheaper

Thanks for all the very helpful replies. It’s greatly appreciated.

Ideally I’d like a smart phone but I can see this will cost around about £100. I haven’t considered Argos and I’ll have a look there too. Locally, we have a Vodafone and an EE shop, and I might make enquiries there as well.
