New Job Seekers allowance and tax rebate
New Job Seekers allowance and tax rebate
I was made redundant on 31 Dec 2023 and claimed New Job Seekers allowance from January 2024 to beyond 5 April 2024.
I am due a tax rebate on the tax I paid while in my last job. Everything I read online says that this will be paid by the benefits office. The Benefits office have confirmed they will pay this and that they have everything they need but I can’t get anyone to advise how long this will take.
Has anyone got any experience of getting a tax rebate through the benefits office? If so, can you let me know the timescale?

Tax refunds will be paid by HMRC.0

No, there are situations where the benefit office pays the tax refund. And normally once they have the information required, it takes about 2 weeks.
If you phoned 0800 169 0190 and asked for a return call about progress with this, it may speed it up.The comments I post are personal opinion. When you claimed JSA did you hand in your P45 from your last employer?"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Yes. I handed it in my P45 at my first unemployment meeting. I also called the benefits number at the beginning of May and they confirmed they had it.sammyjammy said:When you claimed JSA did you hand in your P45 from your last employer?0 -
Have you received a P60u from them yet? The tax refund if due should be issued at the same time as that. As they have your P45 from the employment they have all the details they need."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

I got the P60u at the end of April but it only has the benefits received on it not any info from my P45. That's why i called to ask them if they had the P45 and if they would sending my tax rebate. On the Phone they confirmed they had the P45 and they would send the rebate but couldn't say when.sammyjammy said:Have you received a P60u from them yet? Not in the situation the op describes.DE_612183 said:Tax refunds will be paid by HMRC.1 -
It sounds as though although you handed in your P45 it hasn't been processed into their systems which means a tax refund won't be forth coming from them, now the P60u has been received and the tax year has ended they can't enter it. Have you checked your tax account for 23/24 online? It looks like the tax refund will now need to come from HMRC.PA123 said:

I understand you cant get contribution based JSA IF you receive more than £50/week From a Pension
is that from regular/annuity payments
OR does it include amounts from pension drawdown???0 -
JSA ignores £50 per week of regular pension income. After this they deduct £1 for each £1
It is regular pension payment treated as income. One off pension drawdown is capital and does not affect JSA.
