Beware Homeserve Insurance Renewals

Previously I have had no issues with Homeserve.
Be careful of introductory offers and the subsequent renewal price.
I had a policy for electrical cover at £1 per month, £12 per year. The renewal for the same policy was offered at £96 per year!
Although the terms state that it’s an introductory offer, you should watch out for massive hikes for subsequent renewals.
To me, this is sharp practice since a large proportion of people are likely to fall for this if they do not check the renewal email properly.
My issues have been raised with Homeserve Customer Service.

I've used homeserve off and on over the years taking advantage of the intro offer.  But you do have to be sure to tell them (as you do with many policies) no automatic renewal.  And then check that they've not autorenewed.

Had a similar thing with RAC where there was a good intro offer and I had stated clearly no automatic renewal but they went ahead renewed anyways at a much higher cost and it took them 6 months to cancel.  I had cancelled the DD in the meantime which generated their debt collection threats despite numerous phone calls.

£1 per month is as good as getting the insurance cover for free.  Surely you didn't expect the ongoing cost of this cover to be similar to £1/month ?
