BT Landline - changing package & exit fees

Options
I'm looking to reduce the BT Landline package in a property now vacant and due to be sold eventually.  I only want their basic PAYG home phone offering now, but I am aware BT services usually seem to be packages with terms, 12 or 24 months etc.  As the house will be sold eventually (6 to 9 months maybe?) I am aware that I may have to pay an exit fee, as the owner (now in care) won't be taking any BT service with her.

Does anyone know if reducing the Landline to PAYG is likely to tie me to a term with early exit fees?

As it is vacant & owner has moved out. Why not use that to end the service.
No need for a phone there is no one is living in property.

We have to occasionally stay there, and after discussion we didn't want to end the landline just yet.

If you take a minimum term contract, even if it’s just telephony ( although you may find that’s not easy as BT PSTN  isn’t available to order anymore ) then quitting early requires early termination charges .

Which was my fear really, that whatever I saved downgrading the package might be lost when forced to leave that BT line in less than a year having reset the clock on the package term.  Does anyone know how hefty those early exit fees may be?

Looking at BT Early Termination fees I would say it will be virtually full price as a standalone phone only service(if available) will have negligible saved costs

Taken from the BT site .

    Example of cancellation fee

You pay £35 a month. You have four months left in your minimum commitment period. We multiply £35 by four months, totalling £140.

We take off VAT, reducing it to £116.67.

We take off the costs we save (for example, £15 per month, multiplied by four = £60), leaving £56.67 We discount by 1% for early receipt, making £56.10.

We add on VAT, making your final early termination fee £67.32.

Obviously how much you will pay for the service and the number of months that will remain are not known , so it’s not possible to say exactly what your ETC will be
