Car insurance renewal doubled

ultimately have to read the full wording but a traditional courtesy car is provided by the garage doing the repairs at their own expense which is why you only get one when the car is repairable and not when its stolen/unrecovered or a total loss.Jemma01 said:
I'm insured with Admiral on a comprehensive cover, it says courtesy car is provided until the car is fixed. I'm just unsure if it must involve an accident or just a breakdown.DullGreyGuy said:Sounds like the OP was just being optomistic that they'd get a free car whilst theirs was being repaired
Which bodyshop would give you use of one of their courtesy cars without any payment whilst your car is for mechanical repairs with someone else?
Some insurers offer an "Enhanced" or "Guaranteed" vehicle for an additional premium and this then switches to being a hire car paid for by the insurer rather than the bodyshops own car for free. In principle this could be offered on any reason basis if the insurer wanted to but it'd be highly questionable if it was economical to make a claim, pay the excess and lose your NCD for the sake of a tiny hire car for a couple of weeks maximum rather than just finding a repairer that will give you a courtesy car anyway. Not immediately aware of any insurer that has opened up the hire car option to non-AD/Fire/Theft reasons but could exist.1 -
My policy had a near 60% increase this renewal on top of the 50% last year. Shopped around and got it for just over what I paid last year with another major insurer. Did another couple of quotes and they came in similar to this new cover, previous renewals have always been within a few pounds plus or minus of the other major players.

Yes this was what I was unsure about at the time, hence me confirming with the insurer.Jemma01 said:

Thanks @soolin and @Bigphil1474 - the car broke down, the car was recovered and taken to a local garage and I assumed this would be considered a reportable incident as the car was no driveable and I wanted clarification on the courtesy car. I’ve since spoken to my insurer who said they log all issues whether mechanical or related to a claim but that is not something that needs to be noted as no payments were paid out and premium not affected!0

For a lot of people, vehicle insurance premiums have increased 40% - over 100%, depends when your renewal is, some of us have had to pay from last year.
A claim under the vehicle's warranty is not going to affect insurance premiums as it's not an accident. If you had breakdown then that's a separate policy.1
