Ask the dealer, they'll sort it out for you, you're not the first person to buy a car, they know all about this. Make sure to ask so they don't rush you out unprepared. They'll also give you 7 day insurance (I don't remember how much they charge or if they give it free of charge)

    Mortgage debt start date = 25/10/2024 = 175k (5.44% interest rate, 20 year term)
    Q4/2024 = 139.3k (5.19% interest rate)
    Q1/2025 = 125.3k (interest rate dropped from 5.19% - 4.69%)
    Q2/2025 = 108.9K (interest rate 4.44%)
    Q3/2025 = 103.9k

You can’t drive it untaxed so if you tax it in the31st you will pay a months tax for 1day

    First mistake is the 31st.
One months tax lost for one day, ouch.
My Mum got her new car delivered today at least she gets 3 days tax out of the month.
We are not too unhappy as got 3k of a brand new C3 Max Auto for her.
My car tax is £35 a year so a small loss.
How much is your new car tax ?
Either collect on Saturday or Monday.
    Or take the hit.

Is the car still taxed ?.
You could take it on a test drive home B) using their insurance.
So would be covered as you dont own the car, but that would be wrong would it not.

My friends old car packed up while visitng me, he needed to get back to Lincolnshire from Dover.
So I let him use my car, all legal as both were insured and my car was not hired or owned by him.
Hell called me when he got home and said its a nice car and what am I doing with it when my new car arrives in 2 weeks.
Selling it, He then said how much and paid for it there and then.
This was not planned, left me without a car for 2 weeks.

It won’t be. Dealers don’t tax cars.

Yes, they arrange tax on your behalf when you buy. They don’t tax cars they have in stock in their own name, which was what the earlier poster was suggesting.

You can buy tax "from" the next month if you buy it on the last two working days of the month.

So today and tomorrow, you can buy it expiring at the end of next May.
