Hello fellow MSE friends. Just wondering has anyone got any tips on bidding for flight upgrades? (In particular Lufthansa long haul). Any success and was it worth the money?

What cabin are you booked in? What cabin are you bidding for?
Worth the money really depends on how much you pay and what you value. Certainly having a bed to sleep on is a benefit on an overnight flight, food & drink can be a step up but if your ideal meal is McDs then you may not appreciate this etc.
If you are only going to upgrade one leg... upgrade the flight home. Everyone gets excited and upgrades the outbound leg to start the holiday in the right way but in practice your excited about the prospects of the holiday and so can cope with economy much better than the return flight when you are thinking of work tomorrow etc and hence the bigger seat etc is more appreciated4 -

I had a look at bidding for an upgrade on our flight via Munich. Think the minimum bid was $100 per passenger so I didn't bother. Would have had a cheeky bid for a fiver if it was an option.0

On the Lufthansa bidding system you knkow what cabin you are bidding for.
On a Long Haul flight the upgrade will always make for a better flight (especially a lie flat business bed vs economy!) but only you can decide how much it's worth in monetary terms.
I did get a successful upgrade a few years back on Lufthansa. Their app/website has an upgrade section and will have a price to buy upgrades. I monitored that in the weeks before my flight to get a feel for how much it would cost. You could use this to steer your bid.
The bidding system can get good value upgrades, but you won't get a long haul business upgrade for next to nothing!0 -
