Help re can't tax car..
Hi, I am currently away from home as flying on holiday tomorrow.
My car tax is due 1st of June, and foolishly I didn't realise that I needed either the V5C or reminder letter with me. I had just "assumed" that I could just input the regs number and pay online.
I am away until 20th June and car will be unused and parked on my friend's driveway.
Is there anyway around the issue as I live almost 150 miles away and obv need to get home upon my return.
Could I possibly get it taxed on the phone to DVLA if I explain the issue?
Failing that, I am likely to be fined or whatever they do during my time away when it's on a private driveway.. I can't even Sorn it short term without the V5 info.
Really kicking myself!!!
Thanks

Obvious question is can someone get into your place and look for the paperwork for you?
Oh - looking at the DVLA website there's something about applying for a new log book and taxing the vehicle at the same time.

Would it be OK though untaxed on friends driveway? If they sent another reminder in the 3weeks whilst I was away, I could get that picked up and details texted to me.
(The V5 is locked away with other private papers)
The money saver in me is stuck between saving the £25...and risking a bigger fine 🤔1 -
You're likely to get a reminder that it's not taxed and then be able to tax it once you return home. Should be no issue at all. My car was untaxed a few months ago because the DD failed but the DVLA website was still showing it as taxed. Reminder letter didn't arrive until the 22nd of the month, I then taxed it and no further communications.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1

For the future, scan and copy the V5, driving license and anything you might need.
Then email it to yourself, that way you can access it an any point anywhere in the world.
No help now.2 -

Update, as it may be helpful to someone else in future....
I 'phoned DVLA this morning and after explaining the issue and answering some questions, I'm happy to say my car is now taxed. 🥳
Thanks to all for input 👍
