Purchasing National Trust membership abroad

Has anyone taken out National Trust membership abroad? The cost is considerably less and they have reciprocal agreements with several other countries including NT and NTS.

Specifically, the Maltese NT is €40 for joint membership https://dinlarthelwa.org/membership/

Has anyone done this and been able to access NT properties in Northern Ireland the same as a standard UK member?

Is Malta NT the best option abroad and are there any residency restrictions?

Thanks in advance.

*Before anyone takes umbrage at this query, I have previously paid full price for NT membership and regularly use their cafes, book shops etc. I also was a member during the covid era and lost 50% of my membership, without a refund*

Yes, I remember this sort of thing working many years ago so if the loophole hadn't been closed it still should.

I'll see if I can find a link to another thread

There's a list of reciprocal organisations with links but it is a bit old

Why not read the terms for yourself?

On the application page they state:

New applications for membership to Din l-Art Ħelwa, will only be sent membership cards if they have a local address in Malta. No refunds can be given for incorrectly submitted applications. Non Malta residents are invited to take up membership with the national trust of their own country

So you need a Maltese address, not residency, otherwise you pay and dont get a card to be able to use here.

You could look at a mail forwarding service in Malta but the cost saving may be totally eroded by it.

We used to buy NTS membership (don't live in Scotland), but there was always a question mark about free parking for NT properties in England.  I think the loophole has now been closed.

I evidently didn’t see that part and sometimes those statements aren’t necessarily enforced.

Scottish NT still entitles visits to sites in England Wales and NI
    Joint £10.25 per month
Senior joint £8.30 per month at 60
To get Senior membership in the English system requires you to have 3  consecutive years membership prior to you applying for the Senior you our not automatically entered into the Senior when you qualify

The New Zealand loophole has evidently been closed as it's now $550 NZ (£265) for overseas family membership.

    A bit old?

The most recent post was in 2007, that is 17 years ago!

As far as I know all of these "loopholes", except the small saving to be had via the NTS, have been closed for quite a while.
