NS&I Interest

Thanks for all the comments. I now understand that HMRC will tax either or both of us as they see fit…. It just would have been good to have the NS&I financial years tax figures as I used to do rather than my own adding up. Interest rates seem to be on the downward slope again, I have had notification that Marcus are reducing theirs from 15th June so maybe we won’t be receiving as much interest in the future. It was nice while it lasted.0

As you are in PAYE what matters is what figures NSI submit to HMRC so I think they are your best contact - they should be able to tell you what interest has been or will be charged to tax in each tax year. We know also that NSI only send total interest in the final year, so there's no way round that being charged then - they won't alter that.0

An update. I received a letter from NS&I on Friday morning to give me the yearly breakdown on the NS&I bond that I had asked for 3 times. Yay. Wait, on Saturday morning another letter from them thanked me for my request but they were sorry that as I am an internet or telephone customer then they cannot send me paper statements and to log on to my account to request these. Madness or what. Anyway, I now have what I need and husband’s figures will be the same amounts so thanks for all who added to this discussion.1
