New Tenant HELP!

Hello,
Last week I moved into a flat - which is on the grounds of an old Georgian home. There are two converted flats and I'm one of them. The property management can not get hold of the previous tenant to find out my MPAN number. I have tried EDF and British Gas (the management are confident they were with one of these) However, both have said they do not have any record. I need the MPAN number to even set up a new account. The previous tenant will not respond to any requests. Has any one got any advice on what to do? I want to get set up asap so I don't receive a backdated bill for 3 months worth of electricity! The previous tenant was there for 20 years and they just let them get on with it.
The gas is with good energy and I'm waiting on a card for the meter...hopefully!
Thanks for any help!
Kate

Did you take a photo of the meter reading when you moved in/is it recorded anywhere on the inventory of landlord paperwork?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Thanks but when I do that - it comes up with a couple of addresses, and the other flat, but not mine! Does it mean previous tenant never registered to pay?!

I did take a photo of a VERY old meter covered in cobwebs, but no idea who the provider is still. Still, at least i have a photo from move in date incase the previous tenant didn't pay anything for 20 years!

The database isn't infallible. I suspect the address they have may not be what, say, the Royal Mail address database has. Sometimes they remain what was entered when a place was built or converted, so you might get something like "Plot 2, new development, middle of a muddy field, postcode".

You could try ringing the DNO to see if they can identify it. They may have additional location information, such as map coordinates, or what3words.

are you sure you have a separate supply and are not on a sub-meter?

Did you buy the flat or are your renting?

Also have you got the actual Meter Number?

This is the meter…so when I said it’s old.. :D

I am renting, and new to it. I think that the previous tenant was in there so long, the landlords and property management aren’t really sure what’s what!

    thanks

    That's a sub-meter, I'm pretty certain. It doesn't appear to have a serial number.

Yes, thats a sub-meter - that means you pay the landlord for the electricity used not the electricity company.

It should be in the terms of your rental agreement - you have got a contract haven't you?

( and by the way - you won't get a card for pre-payment if thats what you were hoping ).

The prepayment is with Good Energy for Gas - I've seen the meter for that as it was installed a couple of weeks ago. Just need the card to arrive now. (Only ordered on Friday)
That's interesting to know it's a submeter for the electric...I knew people on here would know! I'll get in touch with the property company. Yes I do have a contract but it wasn't in that!
