Cash machine didn't dispense cash but money taken from bank

Sorry to hear about everyone’s cash machine problems. When I worked in retail banking , cash machine mis dispenses were investigated at the branch which hosted the machine. Normally we would check the audit roll against the time of the dispense to see if any error occurred on the audit roll. If the cash machine was over, ie more cash that there should have been and it matched the disputed dispense then we would issue a refund. My branch was in. Medium sized market town and we might see 3 or 4 queries a year compared to hundreds of thousands of cash machine tranactions. If the cash dispense was commenced and the money was not taken, the machine would automatically initiate a refund to the customer’s bank account, including customers of other banks. If you see cash sticking out of a cash machine leave it to be taken back, safe in the knowledge that it will be refunded to its rightful owner.
If we as a bank received a dispute that was not substantiated from our enquiry to the disoensing bank there was discretion for an ex gracia payment. In doing so we would look at the customer’s worth to the bank. If the customer had a few products with us with good balances, debit or credit or other products such as insurance or mortgages ie, customers that made money for the bank, the refund would be looked on more favourably than an account which generated little or no income to the bank.
Hope that helps you understand how the process works.3 -
I'm not sure that there is all that much demand for them, it seems to just be a vocal minority that calls for them. Give it ten years and they will probably fizzle out.epm-84 said:I do wonder why there is so much demand for Banking Hubs, given they offer limited banking options. Maybe the distrust of ATMs is the reason why?0
