Smart Meter or IHD faulty?

I have a BG Landis and Glyn smart meter from 2015 and up until this weekend the IHD displayed the meter information correctly.

Now it just displays the electric details and the gas details are missing.

I the battery failing in the gas meter? It still shows the meter reading when I press the red button.

Is your supplier getting the gas readings? If they are, then the gas meter must still be communicating with the electric meter. It seems to be a not uncommon problem, but I don't know how/if it can be fixed.

I've no idea I suppose I will have to wait until 24th June when my bill is produced.

I have a different model IHD, but when mine lost the gas details last year, simply switching off the IHD (and then back on) restored them.

You could download the Bright app and register with them. If you are seeing the gas consumption then so should the supplier.

That was the first thing I did, I actually left it switched off for a day, made no difference.

Does your supplier not show you your usage on your account?

I've just had a bill dated 24th May and that was the day that the IHD stopped showing the gas meter readings and usage, the bill is correct as the readings for the bill are taken at midnight and it wasn't until 10:00 when the IHD came out of it's sleep mode that I noticed there was no gas reading.

Is it significant that the IHD stopped working the day a bill was produced?

I already have that app and all it is showing since the 24th May is the standing charge so free gas  :D

The wife wants to put the heating back on as she has been feeling cold because of all this rain we have been getting.

I would do three things :
    • Keep checking the gas meter manually every day or so to make sure the reading is increasing with gas usage, maintaining a record of the readings in case the meter fails completely.
    • Manually submit the gas reading every month if your supplier has a way to let you do this.
    • Report the failure to your supplier, pointing out that the readings are not showing on the Bright App and therefore you suspect they will not be getting through to your supplier either. If you just tell them the IHD has failed, they will probably just trot out the line that it is more than 12 months old and no longer their problem!

Are you still with BG, or did you move to EDF at some point? Only reason I ask is that EDF switched a lot of accounts over to their new system around the 24th May and if you are now with EDF I wonder if this is the reason why your gas readings are no longer showing. Unlikely but I thought I would ask.

    I'm with Eon

Well no free gas :(  the meter is advancing, just not sending the readings to wherever they need to go.

I will wait to see what my June bill is before I contact Eon.

So back to going out in the rain and cold to read the meter for my spreadsheet.
