Why isn't it in the same league? It's exactly the same although my mileage discrepancy is bigger than yours at 7000 miles not 5000 but otherwise exactly the same.

Someone in my family owned this diesel van over 20 years ago and it has probably had several owners since then. Mileage was up 10 102,378 in 2023, then on the next MOT it had mysteriously decreased to 5213. Ok so maybe it had increased to 105, 213 and someone accidently forgot to add the 1 and the 0, knocking 100k off the mileage. But weirdly, it was MOT'd AGAIN a year later and it was recorded as 7,816. So perhaps it was the same garage MOT'ing it and the mechanic is SERIOUSLY number dyslexic? Never bothered reporting it as the vehicle is nothing to do with us and we only checked in in an idle moment as you sometimes do with vehicles you've previously owned to see if they are still on the road. But a great example of a society who make rules and don't give a !!!!!! about enforcing them. I'd report it if there was an easy way of doing it. But why bother, knowing it will take forever and nothing will be done?

More likely is that it had a replacement speedo. I don't think many people would fall for a 30 year old vehicle with 7k miles. The condition alone would give it away.

I know most Ford's of that age only had a 5 digit mileage counter so it would have gone 99,999 to zero and started again. The 2023 tester worked it out, the last 2 just took the actual figure.
