If you accept the renewal without a claim, and then have one, you need to tell them and they will probably charge you more.
If you wait until the new year of cover, then tell them you have a claim from a month ago, they will know you have deliberately lied on the renewal to make it cheaper. They might then cancel your insurance.
If you decide to lie about the date of the damage, you've written on a public forum that you are planning to do so.0 -
I’m not planning to lie to anyone! just wondered if it would affect this years renewal price - guess it will so no difference when we claim0

I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. You have to claim on the policy that was in force at the date of the incident which is this years policy. It will impact the renewal.
If you were late to report the claim there would be fraud questions to answer as to why you didnt notify them of the loss at the renewal, they could void the policy for false declaration or could do the same increase as if you had told them before renewal but also add on an administration fee for late reporting.0 -
As others have suggested, to renew without declaring and then to attempt to claim for an earlier incident could certainly be considered to be fraud by deception, or something similar. You would be attempting to obtain goods or services at a price lower than would have been offered if the insurer was in receipt of all the relevant facts.
